5/25/2021: Why I can’t quit Google Photos

One week from today, Google will make good on its plans to eliminate unlimited Google Photos storage.

As the company announced back in November, new photo uploads will count toward your Google account storage limits from June 1 onward. That means you’ll have at most 15 GB of free storage for new photos, but less if you’re using the same account for Gmail and Google Drive. (One exception: Pixel phones can still upload photos for free.)
