Advisorator Free: A PowerPoint practice tool

A PowerPoint practice tool

Hey folks! You’re reading the free version of Advisorator, providing a tip and a deal in your inbox each week. Become a member to get in-depth feature articles, extra tips, more deals, and personalized advice from me.

As someone who’s prone to using lots of—umm, you know—filler words during presentations, I’m definitely going to make use of Microsoft’s new Presenter Coach feature in in PowerPoint. The feature records audio of your presentations, then provides real-time feedback on pacing, filler words, and other common stumbles. It also generates a report at the end so you can see what to practice next.

To use the coaching feature, head to Slide Show, then select “Rehearse with Coach.” (In PowerPoint for iOS or Android, hit the “…” menu button first, then tap on “Home” to find the Slide Show menu.)

If you’re using the web version of PowerPoint, you can also enable video recording to get feedback on body language and eye contact during your Zoom (or, perhaps, Microsoft Teams) presentations. Just click the down arrow next to Rehearse with Coach and check off “Show body language feedback.” It beats having an actual human criticize you instead.

Spend wisely

If you’re trying to cover a lot of ground with your Wi-Fi network, Woot has Google’s Nest Wifi router with two extra access points for $219 in refurbished condition. That’s $130 off the full price of buying them new. Google advertises these as covering up to 4400 square feet—real world coverage will probably be less than that—and each access point doubles as a Google Assistant speaker.

In this week’s full issue of Advisorator, I wrote about a way to cut down on repetitive typing, a new perk for T-Mobile subscribers, a big caveat with Google’s new sleep tracking tech, and more. Sign up for a free trial, and I’ll send it your way!
