Cord cutting archives and ad-free columns

Introducing: The Cord Cutting Archives and ad-free streaming columns

Hey folks, I’m sending out an extra email today to announce a big upgrade to your Advisorator membership:
- You now have access to a searchable archive of every cord cutting column I’ve ever written since 2014. These articles first appeared on TechHive and PCWorld; now you can read them on the Advisorator site with no ads, trackers, or other distractions.
- If you subscribe to my Cord Cutter Weekly newsletter, you’ll start getting a link to an ad-free version of my weekly streaming column at the top of each newsletter. This will replace the standard PCWorld column link, providing a cleaner reading experience.
The ad-free cord cutting column and archives are both exclusive new benefits of your Advisorator membership. While Cord Cutter Weekly remains free to read without a subscription, non-members will get a standard edition of the newsletter that links to PCWorld’s version of my column (ads and all).
Important details
If you use the same email address for Advisorator and Cord Cutter Weekly, you shouldn’t have to do anything extra to get my ad-free streaming column. Starting with this Friday’s Cord Cutter Weekly, the main “Read the full column →” link at the top will automatically bring you to my own site instead of PCWorld.
If you use separate email addresses for each newsletter, I strongly suggest signing up for Cord Cutter Weekly again using the address associated with your Advisorator membership. Otherwise you’ll continue to get the standard version of the newsletter.
If you don’t subscribe to Cord Cutter Weekly at all, you should! It’s free and will help you save money on TV. But you can also just read my columns online at your leisure.
Why I’m doing this
I still have a great relationship with the folks at PCWorld and will continue syndicating my streaming column there, so it’ll remain free to read for non-members. But from now on, I’ll be publishing the column on my own site first, in a reader-friendly format for those who support my work.
For me, this a big step toward making Cord Cutter Weekly a fully independent, reader-supported publication, just like Advisorator always has been. There’s already a lot of reader overlap between the two publications, and bringing a decade-plus of accumulated streaming knowledge onto my own site raises a lot of interesting possibilities for the future.
All of which is to say that I’m extremely grateful for your support, and would love to hear your feedback.
More to come
I’ve got some other exciting membership news coming next week, so stay tuned! (Or, you can also check the Advisorator forum for clues.)
As for the actual Advisorator newsletter, I’m still traveling for a couple more days but will send out an abbreviated issue tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy the Cord Cutting Archives and let me know what you think!
Until then,
Jared
