Rebooting Advisorator’s Deal Alerts

Rebooting Advisorator’s Deal Alerts

Hey folks, I’m excited to share an overhaul to how I send out deal alert emails to Advisorator members.

When I find a deal worth sharing between regular issues of the newsletter, I’ll now post it on the Advisorator “Tech Buds” forum, and you’ll automatically get an email notification when this happens. This has a few advantages over the old newsletter-based system:

  • It’s much easier for me to post deals this way, so I can share more of them.
  • I can update the post if a deal expires or the price changes.
  • You can ask me questions or discuss the products on sale.

The coolest part, though, is that you can now customize your deal alerts. Don’t care about Apple products or Windows PCs, for instance? Feel free to turn off specific deal categories (or disable deal alerts entirely) by following these instructions.

Muting a deal category.

I’ll likely start using this system in earnest later in the week, though of course it depends on whether there’s actually a deal worth notifying you about. In the meantime, I’ve opened up a suggestion thread where you can share any deals you’ve spotted on your own.

I’m envisioning this as a calmer, less noisy alternative to sites like Slickdeals, and I’m pretty excited to see where it goes.

Until tomorrow,
Jared
