In recent weeks, I’ve received a pair of similar questions from opposite ends of the smartphone spectrum.

One Advisorator reader told me that her husband was still hanging onto an iPhone 6, and wanted to know what would be the most sensible upgrade. Another reader asked whether his wife, who leans toward the latest and greatest, should get an iPhone 13 or try to save some money with an older model.
