Initially pitched as a more convenient way to get through airport security, they&#8217;ve also hinted at using digital IDs to verify your age online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, Apple&#8217;s taking the first step toward doing that with <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/04\/24\/apple-wallets-new-digital-id-feature-just-added-more-ways-to-use-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">age verification for its own apps and services<\/a>. For instance, you may be asked to confirm your adulthood during Apple account setup, with digital ID as an option. Applying digital ID to third-party apps and services is likely the next step, especially as more state passing age verification laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More notable news and reads:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Google&#8217;s hotel search <a href=\"https:\/\/theintelligence.com\/42944\/track-hotel-prices-google-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adds a price tracker with email alerts<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/3120244\/you-dont-need-extra-antivirus-on-windows-11-microsoft-officially-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">don&#8217;t need to pay for Windows antivirus software<\/a>, Microsoft says. (I&#8217;ve been <a href=\"https:\/\/advisorator.com\/members\/advisorator-guides\/do-you-still-need-antivirus-software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying this myself for years<\/a>.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scientists tricked ChatGPT into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-026-01100-y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warning people about a fake disease<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comcast&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/comcast-adds-2-premium-xfinity-mobile-plans-with-global-roaming-included\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new wireless plans include overseas data<\/a>, but no family plan discounts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Framework announces <a href=\"https:\/\/frame.work\/blog\/introducing-framework-laptop-13-pro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a &#8220;Pro&#8221; version of its highly repairable laptop <\/a>, with much better battery life than the standard version. It&#8217;s the kind of thing that should get flagged by Gmail&#8217;s spam filters, but didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you do about it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t trust any unsolicited email that leads to a sign in page. You can always just visit the site directly to sign in instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t click on suspicious email links, or at the very least check the site address to see if it matches who the sender claims to be. (Using web mail on a computer, you may be able to hover over a link to view the address without clicking on it.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a password manager and be alert for any website that doesn&#8217;t autofill your credentials. (Password managers won&#8217;t autofill on fake websites.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/advisorator.com\/members\/advisorator-guides\/two-factor-authentication-done-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Set up two-factor authentication<\/a> when possible, especially for your email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you know all this already, it&#8217;s easy to get caught off guard by phishing schemes when you&#8217;re busy or distracted, so consider this a reminder to stay alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-button-color-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-button-color-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Try these apps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Easier online reading:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/obsidian.md\/clipper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Obsidian Web Clipper<\/a> is a free browser extension that&#8217;s mainly used to save offline copies of web pages, but it recently added a &#8220;Reader&#8221; mode that conveniently unclutters online articles. (From the archives: <a href=\"https:\/\/advisorator.com\/members\/2023\/08\/22\/8-22-2023-my-nerdy-new-notes-setup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Why I&#8217;m using Obsidian for writing and notetaking<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rhyme time:<\/strong> For the aspiring poets out there, <a href=\"https:\/\/rhymeit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rhymeit.org<\/a> (via <a href=\"https:\/\/webcurios.co.uk\/webcurios-24-04-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WebCurios<\/a>) looks up rhymes for any word, grouped by syllable, along with options for near-rhymes.
